This is the end of the first week of rehearsals for The Belle of Winnipeg. It been quite a week. I had originally intended to blog each day from rehearsal, but rehearsals have been so busy, that I haven’t had time. The work has been physically and mentally exhausting, but it’s also been very rewarding. The cast is so talented that even when rehearsing a scene I’m not in, it’s been fun to stick around and watch.
Each day has been so tiring, simply because we are creating the play in rehearsals. Being a play based on the silent film style, there’s no dialog, so there are no lines to learn, but that just means that we have to work harder to express what our characters are doing and feeling. We have to be specific. It’s a lot of work. But the characters are also extremely hilarious, which is good because… It’s a comedy.
There’s more to be done. And there are still a few hurdles in front of us, but everything will come together.
